Welcome, all to the new segment on my blog!!!
I've always wanted to do this and I finally made enough friends for this to work š
Basically, I will feature a new guest every month and they can talk about whatever it is they like. I see so many bloggers do this and I loved the idea so I thought I'd give it a shot.
My first guest is probably one of the first friends I made on Bookstagram and she is honestly a total sweetheart. Her name is Nasirah Kathrada and she is 16 years old. She is the author of Behind The Lens, an anthology that is predominantly about social issues.
(Just a little side note, I reviewed it earlier on in my blog so you can just check that out. The book was incredible :-D)
She is also a spoken word poet and a human rights activist who aims to use poetry to liberate the youth. In her free time, Nasirah enjoys writing, volunteering, reading and like all other teens, hanging out with her best friend (who just so happens to be a bird).
You can check her out her Bookstagram account @allthingslightwood
She is one of the most driven people I have ever met and when I speak to her, I know she is capable of great things. Nasirah has chosen the topic of What did you do to change the world today? and she makes some extremely valid points.
I hope you enjoy reading it as much as I did :)
**********

I have met kids who can teach you how to mourn, sisters who have been forced to wash the blood off of their brothers' shirts and brothers who have bared the burden of carrying their sisters' corpse on their shoulders.
So many children are left homeless and hopeless. So many children cry for mothers they barely remember or long-lost friends who haunt their dreams.
Yet, we sit in our modern-day palaces, eat even when we're not hungry and live luxurious lives.
We complain about society and the economy but never try to make a change.
You can not complain if you do not try to make a difference, you can not complain about pollution and then toss your cold drink can out of your car window.
Instead of complaining, ask yourself this question; what did I do to change the world today?
You do not have to do anything extreme or donate thousands of rands; all you need to do is perform one random act of kindness.
One random act of kindness can give a child the hope they need to spread their wings, one random act of kindness can brighten an orphans day, one random act of kindness can spark a movement; one random act of kindness holds the power to change lives.

Regardless of how young or old you are, you have the ability to make a difference. You are cosmic, you have galaxies in your veins, you were forged from stardust; you are writhing burning, you are made from flames and you have the power to ignite the hope which will fuel the revolution.
So, make it your everyday mission to change the world and before you know it, you might actually do that.
