TheReadersChronicles: August Edition

I could not decide on a book to review so I told myself:" Faheema! Just review whatever books you read in a month and you'll be fiiiiiine".

So that is what TheReadersChronicles is about!

So without further adieu, enjoy.

And don't forget to comment your thoughts on the book and some positive criticism will go a LONG way in helping me. Thank you!

I know this is long overdue but I had a new temporary job that made sure I literally had NO time... I APOLOGISE!!!!!

Don't forget to comment your favourite read for August :) Like if you enjoy reading :)

1. the princess saves herself in this one by Amanda Lovelace:

Rating: 5/5

Poetry is an art. A beautiful gift in which you can express how you feel in just a few sentences. Amanda Lovelace possesses this gift, no doubt about that.

You feel the pain. You feel the words which hit you right in the heart. Everything about the book was so beautiful. With her words comes this strength and she intends to pass that strength to you. I am so glad I read this book because, like all poetry, it reaches the soul.

2. The Dark Between Stars by Atticus:

Rating: 4/5

Atticus has always been a favourite of mine. His poetry is something completely out of this world. Yes, most of the time I can't relate because I'm not in a relationship but the empowering poems... Atticus is spot on with those.

The reason I also really enjoy his poetry is because of the beautiful black and white aesthetic photographs in the book. It is so lovely to look at and I love aesthetic. Everything about Atticus is amazing and I literally don't have words to describe the book because it has to do with preference and the emotional connection to poetry. I adore poetry but didn't relate to all of the poems, hence the rating of 4 out of 5. Although, you may give it a higher rating because again, emotional connection to poems is a thing XD.

3. Cinder by Marissa Meyer:

Rating: 5/5

Cinder was mind-blowing. There are so many retellings of the Cinderella story but this one, hands down, is the best one. For anyone who enjoys anything fairytales, this is the book for you... heck, the entire series is for you.

Cinder is a part of the Lunar Chronicles and it is so interesting to read. Cinder's character was unlike sweet, innocent Cinderella and that was the best part! It was nice to see a Cinderella that didn't act so... Disney, you get me?

I loved all the characters and how the book takes place in the dystopian universe. It's a classic not so classic kind of story that just gets you all giddy inside when you read the similarities. You'll want more. That is for sure.

Scarlet by Marissa Meyer:

Rating: 5/5

Scarlet is my favourite so far from the Lunar Chronicles and is the second book in this series. It is a lovely mix on the story of Red Riding Hood and wow, the best story yet. Marissa Meyer has made me the happiest person in the world!

Scarlet's character is your typical young adult lead but there is something about her that you can't help but love. For one, her relationship with her granny is one that warms your heart. And Wolf... I don't know why but I love tortured characters. Meaning characters that have it rough but there is this rawness to them and I am here for it. It's so amazing and sob-inducing when they meet someone that they love and that like makes them less tortured... *cough cough*.

Anyways, it is a majorly satisfying read and I definitely recommend it.

P.S. I Still Love You by Jenny Han:

Rating: 4.5/5

Okay, so I have a lot of mixed feelings about the sequel of To All The Boys I Loved Before.

Firstly, I am getting a bit annoyed with Lara Jean. She is adorable and quirky and smart and beautiful and so talented.

Why is she running after Peter?????? Or any guy???? Guys should be chasing her!!!!?? Besides, I get that it is supposed to be an average love story with its complications and twists. But can my girl just know that she won't die without a boy in her life?

Then again... it is Peter Kavinsky so see why I am so damn confused :/ But like, end of the day, she doesn't need a guy but then again, what do I know? :|

I enjoyed the first book though and the second one wasn't as bad. But so much drama... it's too much for me.

But I would recommend it. It's a cute love story and I am here for cute love stories.

She Wore Red Trainers by Na'ima B. Roberts

Rating: 4/5

There are not many Islamic love stories that I have seen or even read. This is like... the second one and they are very difficult to find.

But wow, there needs to be more of them because this was so cute. You know, in Islam there is no first kiss or first date or whatever. And it takes skill to imagine a love story in Islam. But damn Na'ima made it WORK!

The characters were so cute and ALI!!! Oh my God ALI IS THE LOVE OF MY LIIIIIIIFE *sobs*

And my girl Amirah... she is literally like 10% of the Muslim girls in the world. Because of the crap men in their life, they swear off marriage UNTIL they meet the boy of their dreams... then that promise flies right of the window.

It's good though because, in Islam, marriage is half of your faith. And this book literally gives hope okay. I'm a Muslim female so trust me :)

Anyway, the bottom line is that you should read this, Muslim or not, this is a love story unlike any other. It is just... amazing and I don't know how to explain without crying unnecessarily.

The Wren Hunt by Mary Watson:

Rating: 5/5

My final read for August and wow, I loved it. I've seen it everywhere but as usual, I was delayed and only read it now but I am so glad I did.

I enjoyed it because it got right to the point fast, no filler chapters, no looooong Dorian Gray kind off descriptions, just straight into the story. And Wren was really unique. The story was unique. The characters were like a cliche but so nice... especially Tarc because hello :)

For my fellow fantasy lovers, this is an excellent book. It is really lovely and makes me happy and I highly recommend it.

Until next time,

Ok now I'm hella hyped for Cinder. Usually not a series fan but I'll give this a shot JUST for the fairy tale retelling 😋 i adore such things.

Also I'm HYPED for She wore Red Trainers 👌 there's a genuine NEED for Good Muslim writers to cater to the YA/Teen Muslim diaspora
