Review: The Binding by Bridget Collins

Synopsis:

Emmett Farmer is a binder’s apprentice. His job is to hand-craft beautiful books and, within each, to capture something unique and extraordinary: a memory.

If you have something you want to forget, or a secret to hide, he can bind it – and you will never have to remember the pain it caused.

In a vault under his mentor’s workshop, row upon row of books – and secrets – are meticulously stored and recorded.

Then one day Emmett makes an astonishing discovery: one of the volumes has his name on it.

Rating: 4/5

I can finally read and blog stress-free and I am so happy, you guys!!!! This book, in particular, took a while for me to get into but I am so glad I gave it a chance. I will admit that the beginning was a bit slow for me so again, it took me a long time to finally get into the book but when I finally did, I could not put it down.

The plot was extremely gripping once you reached the climax of the story. The book is split into 3 parts, and around halfway of Part one is when things get really interesting. The actual mysteries and technique of binding was not explained the way I thought it would be and the story focussed more on the contents of Emmett's book rather than Emmett himself being a binder and his apprentice, Seredith. I would have liked to also know more about Seredith and her history and well, I can only hope for a novel based on that = ̄ω ̄=

The characters were fabulously written and I loved how I could feel the emotions a certain character was feeling. Collins really creates a great experience for readers to really become a part of the story through how realistically she wrote the characters. A little warning, your emotions may go haywire during the second half of the story because of THE PLOT TWIST which you sort off see coming but you also do not expect it and I was shooketh, y'all.

The passion in the writing was so enticing and I felt as if though I was there, which is all a reader wants when reading a story and that is to be a part of it. When I finished it, I was left with a warm feeling in my chest which was nice for once because I've read too many books that just made me cry (*゜ー゜*)

I would definitely recommend this novel to ages 17 and above due to explicit content and vulgar language.

An overall magical experience that is guaranteed to make your heart ache and flutter all at once. Thank you to Jonathan Ball Publishers for the review copy.

Until next time, remember to sprinkle kindness wherever you go 💜
