Assalamualaykum to all of you lovely people.
It has been a while since I last posted something other than reviews and well, this topic is long overdue seeing as many of us have been at home for as long as 3 months… maybe more since I’ve lost count.
Times have been extremely tough, making it very easy to be pessimistic seeing as there has not been a lot of good happening around the world and well, Covid-19 is not making it any easier. Now that we all have to study or work at home, it is getting extremely difficult to not just give up and retire to the couch for the duration of this pandemic. Not to mention that some people may have lost their jobs, which makes things even worse and well, I hope this blog helps in some way.
We need some positivity, now more than ever. And yours truly shall attempt to make it easier for you to remain positive and motivated enough to do your work. I know that at least one of these things are bound to work for you, friend. **********
1. Surround your space with things you love:
I do not know about you but I love being surrounded by things that make me want to work. I have this letterboard where I put a quote every once in a while, to help me get work done. It does not have to even be a letterboard, you can get creative and make your own unique version of the quote and stick it up on your wall, or maybe even just print it out and put it up by your working place.
Anything that works for you should make things easier.
For someone with many dreams, it helps to take quotes that really speak with you or from people (often celebrities) who you know have struggled to get to where they are. I normally take a mixture of both and you would be surprised how motivated you become.
This could help too if you lost your job or if something bad happened because there are influencers out there who have been through major setbacks just like you still managed to come out on top and they can inspire you to do the same.
You may have lost a battle but you can still win the war.
2. Clean room, clean mind:
This one has my mother’s stamp of approval for sure. To be honest, it probably has every mother’s stamp of approval.
Sometimes when the area we work in is untidy and cluttered with different things, then we have a very hard time focussing on our work. Now, although I am not the world’s tidiest person and my organisational skills are just terrible, I attempt to clean my room up or at least my desk up whenever I see it becoming too muddled with papers and books that have no business being there at that moment. And it is also really therapeutic to get rid of the unnecessary things in your room or you know in your life (know what I’m saying about those toxic people 👀).
And if your mind is the thing that needs some cleaning, then try writing down all those cluttered thoughts on a page because you need an outlet for some of those thoughts and writing down can help. Or talk to someone, be it yourself when you look in the mirror or someone you trust with your life. It helps to get rid of the negative thoughts and emotions you may feel so try to get rid of them in a way you know won’t be harmful to you or anyone else; either by talking, writing, drawing or just screaming into a pillow.
Allow yourself to feel the emotions you feel rather than pushing them away because that does more harm than good.
3. Turn pessimism into optimism:
It is very difficult to look at the bright side of life, especially when everything in the world is just going off the edge and nothing seems to be okay. From wars to protests, all in the middle of a whole pandemic, everyone is bound to be feeling scared, anxious and just downright miserable. But there are ways we can try and make the best of the situation we find ourselves in.
If I’m being honest, I’m not qualified to be giving advice because this pandemic has driven my mental health off of a cliff, but I am trying to stay positive by doing things I love. I do my part when it comes to fighting for BLM and praying for Palestine and Uyghur Muslims, if I do go out I take the necessary precautions because of Covid-19… but these things seriously take a toll on you because you can’t believe things like ending racism is so controversial.
But remaining positive and hopeful is something we can try and do. For starters, if you find social media becoming too much for you, take a break. It’s okay to leave your phone one side and do something that makes you happy. Read, paint, sleep, binge watch something; do anything that will make you feel as if everything will be okay. I want you to know that it’s okay for you to take a break and care for your own state of being.
You can’t try to save the world when you yourself need saving; you get me?
4. Stay healthy:
Exercise, y’all. I know… who wants to exercise? I’d rather binge-watch something or read a book but I have found that somehow exercise gives me more strength and energy to do whatever I had planned such as studying or doing some sort of productive work. Eating healthy also helps a whole lot, there are so many fun salad recipes to try and y’all healthy food just hits differently.
And when I say exercise, I don’t mean weight lifting and hitting the gym. If you want, just walk for about 45 minutes or more each day and it’ll make such a big difference. And of course, stay hydrated.
Not only is your physical health important but as mentioned in the previous point, your mental health is extremely important as well. Nothing is more important than you.
**********
I really hope this post helped in some way and that you guys remember that we can overcome this pandemic if we just wear our masks, sanitise and social distance. Cleanliness is of utmost importance during this time.
Stay safe.
